The live wedding painting process…

01.

Choose the moment. Choose the mood.

Fill out a questionnaire before your wedding that helps me get a feel for your preferences and the moment you want captured on canvas.

02.

The day unfolds. The painting evolves.

Your live painting takes shape as you raise a glass and cut a rug. You and your guests will love peeking over my shoulder as the evening progresses—and I absolutely adore sharing the process with your people (especially fascinated little ones).

03.

In the studio.

Depending on the option you’ve chosen, your painting is taken back to the studio for a wrap-up session or extensive refinement. Once the oil’s dry and the painting’s ready, it’s photographed for a print worthy jpeg and shipped to your door.

04.

Hang it. Big smiles.

Now all that’s left is to hang and enjoy your painting. Since the canvas is stretched over a wooden frame, you can hang it as-is or purchase a frame of your choosing (I personally love floater frames).

FAQ

  • Impressionism is about embracing how something actually looks rather than what we know it to be in a factual way. It involves painting the light that envelops a scene and the color sensations that appear. it is a looking without knowing.

  • Generally 2-3 hours, so I can setup my equipment and begin building the frame of your composition by capturing your lovescape. I’ll start layering venue architecture, lush florals, and romance-glossed décor. By the time your guests stroll in, your scene will be set on canvas.

  • A 50% deposit and signed contract secures your date! Per Covid: If you change your date, we just transfer your deposit to the new date. If your new date is not available, your deposit is 100% refundable.

  • The demand for live event painting is high and I can only in one place at one time, so I always recommend you book as soon as possible!

  • Pricing varies based on the location of the wedding, airfare, accommodation, and if there are multiple dates required. In most cases I only take workin in Southern California (San Diego, OC, Palm Springs. LA, and Santa Barbara) . Email me your request, and I’d be happy to help you find a painter.

  • I love working in oils! Oil paints have a richer pigment, a glossier look, and blend more beautifully when working wet into wet. This gives you vivid colors and a life-like appearance that won’t fade over time.

  • For the Capture the Moment package, I try to keep the paintings true to life and let them unfold in the moment, and narrowing the vision to focus on specific people can ruin the flow. That being said, I do try to get the parents and some of the bridal party if they are in the scene candidly.

For the 24 x 36” studio refined paintings I typically recommend the focus stays on the bride and groom, parents of both sides, best man and maid of honor (maximum of 6 people). Depending on the style of the composition, the painting can get cluttered if too many people are pulling focus.

If you’ve chosen the Museum package, we have space to add more specific people, though I recommend no more than 10-12.

During our consultation, I’ll be able to navigate your vision and help you decide how we can creatively incorporate those people who matter most to you, without ruining the integrity of your painting.

  • Most paintings are 24 x 36” with the museum option being larger at 36 x 48”. But custom sizing is available by request for my most beautiful and elaborate works. Interested? Ask me about getting a custom quote.

  • The capture the moment and edit package options will be shipped or hand delivered within 3 weeks of the wedding. For Museum options, the paintings can take anywhere from 6-8 weeks to complete.

  • About 4’ x 4’. I bring my own equipment and don’t need extra tables, chairs or lighting. So you don’t have to worry about another to-do on an already busy day. The only thing to consider is that I need access to an electrical outlet for my light.

  • On-site painting time can range from 4-6 hours

  • Not at all! It’s part of the experience. I’m comfortable painting in public and offering a behind-the-scenes peek into what I do. Plus, as a former college drawing professor, I’m happy to answer any Qs your guests might have about painting, art history, and the techniques I use.

  • My two fave painters are Fairfield Porter (20th century American) and Vuillard (French Impressionist).

  • Short answer: I love what I do and you and your guests will feel that love! I also bring something to the table on the technical front with a masters degree in painting, 25 years of experience working in oils, and being one of the pioneers of live wedding painting, starting back in 2005 before it was a “thing”. I’ve seen it become a sought-after service and start trending in recent years. But I believe you deserve more than short-lived entertainment at your wedding. Your love deserves to be a work of art that’s worthy of your walls and lasts lifetimes.
